If you have ever had a baby before you completely understand how mixed up your days become! You can't remember if it happened yesterday or a week ago. You are sleep deprived, up at night, napping (if you are lucky) during the day, and EVERYTHING runs together! So bear with me on this post, for everything is approximate! I also may just add a lot of pictures instead of writing so much because life is a little busier! :-)

We had a lot of skin to skin bonding. Cambell was actually in our room during this picture.
Cambell was out of the NICU about 10 or 11pm. They had to test her blood sugar every so often to make sure her levels weren't still low and they also monitored her temperature. She was doing great! She nursed that night and latched on like a champ!
Steve went to check on Cruz in the middle of the night because he felt bad that he had to be down there all by himself, so I made him take a picture. It was the only one that we have of him on the CPAP machine. However, Steve was so mad at me because when he took it the flash startled Cruz!
They took him off the CPAP on Wednesday mid morning. The NICU team does rounds M-F at 9:00 and they tell you exactly what is going on and what they expect. The NICU doctor (Dr. Barden) at Covanent was AMAZING!!! Dr. Barden explained things so we understood them and answered any and all questions! He was extremely patient and was just absolutely amazing! He gave us best case scenario on Wednesday morning that Cruz would go home on Friday, however, it wasn't very likely.

Cael didn't realize there was more than one! He didn't get to see Cruz until we went home, so he didn't know he existed. My mom kept telling him that he had another baby and he kept saying, "No, just baby A and it's Cambell."

Cambell
I was discharged, but Cambell had to stay in the nursery because she wasn't 72 hours old. Luckily they didn't have a ton of people delivering babies so I got to stay in my room with her. If they would have needed my room, Cambell and I would have had to stay in the NICU with Cruz. It was a little difficult trying to feed both babies when we weren't all in the same room, but we managed. We did A LOT of wheeling her back and forth.
During the NICU rounds, that morning we found out that Cruz was not improving therefore his "best" case scenario "window" was moved to Saturday-Monday. His IV fluids weren't able to be lowered because every time they did his blood sugar lowered. And he still needed his isolate to regulate his temperature. Every time they lowered his isolate temperature his body temperature dropped.
Bowen did NOT handle this news well. He was very, very upset that we would not all be going home together. This was hard on Steve and I also and am so very grateful we did not have to be in there long! Steve picked Bowen up that evening and brought him to the hospital to hang out. We had supper together and spent time with Cruz and Cambell. Cael was fine being home with Grandma Sue and Bumpa Ed. He actually told Steve that he wasn't ready to go yet Dad! We thought maybe he would get upset knowing Bowen was leaving, but he was absolutely fine when they left.
Cruz finally nursed Thursday late afternoon! And by that night I was tandem nursing (nursing them at the same time)! It was going very well! Throughout the night they lowered his IV and by early morning the isolate top was removed. We could finally take him in and out by ourselves!

Friday, October 31, 2014- Happy Birthday to one of our many Guardian Angels Grandpa Great!

Cruz surpassed the BEST chaos scenario and would be going home with his sister today!!!!!!! Dr. Barden was VERY impressed with how well he did over the night and would be releasing him later that day. However, he had to get circumcised yet and they had to keep an eye on it for 2 hours to make sure everything was okay. The picture lady came in to take pictures and was over an hour late which pushed us behind on everything else. Dr. Barden highly recommended that we stay and watch the circ get down because "it isn't has bad as what people make it out to be". Steve and I thought it was MUCH worse! I hated it and wished we wouldn't had stayed for it! So, glad I didn't have to watch the other two boys get theirs done.
Mom and dad brought the boys up to the hospital at 4:30 and by 5:00 the new FAMILY of 6 was headed home for the first time!!! And by 5:45, Steve, Dad, Bowen and Cael were out the door Trick or Treating! I guess our life just got crazier! ;-) Happy Halloween everyone!
